‘Alice in Wonderlan Syndrome’, AIWS, is a neurological condition with brief episodes in which perception of size of objects (often body parts of others) are perceived incorrectly. This condition is associated with migraines with visual disturbances, although it is only occasionally associated with a headache.
This 7 year old boy had his first episode last year, in which he asked his Mum why her head had become so small. Since then, he has had a number of these episodes -interestingly in which he sees heads shrink.
The boy’s eyes had been checked and images of his retinas were taken - all of which proved to be normal.
His mother had a history of migraines with visual disturbances and the history pointed towards a diagnosis of AIWS.
